February’s car sales figures exceeded those of the previous year in the face of rising interest rates and continued wait times, according to new VFACTS data from the Federal Chamber of Automotive Industries.

A positive January result has seen sales back up above pre-pandemic numbers, with the 84,873 vehicles sold across the month indicating strong demand remains present across the country.

Despite a year characterised by significant stock shortages and delays in the automotive market, December’s sales result brought the total number of new vehicles purchased in 2022 to 1,081,429.

November marked a fifth successive month of growth for car sales in Australia, with 95,080 new vehicles purchased overall.

The recent upward trend of new vehicle sales around Australia continued across September, with VFACTS data revealing that 93,555 new models were purchased during the last month to register a 12.3% increase on the same point in 2021.
